Wow! I can't believe it's been 6 weeks since I've posted here. Where does the time go? I have tried to keep tabs on a few folks to see what's happening, but even that is difficult at times. For the past month or so, haven't felt too good and been working to get caught up on orders...I am so blessed to have such great customers and so many orders!! Finally, the Tuesday before Thanksgiving, I got all my orders shipped that needed to go before the Holiday. What a relief it was!! I had one day to shop and cook before having my parents and my brother's family over to eat.
I wish that I would have remembered to take pictures, but of course I was to involved with it all to remember. Martha Stewart would have been proud of my 17 pound turkey...turned out perfect! I was thrilled! Been years since I had cooked one like it....made all the fixings too! Even used my fine china, silver and crystal. What a day! I think we all enjoyed it. Hope y'all enjoyed your day!
I have managed to get my tree up a bit early this year. Looks great, I think.

Decided tho, to simplify the decorating this year. It's a lot of trouble for me to pack up tubs with everyday to bring down the seasonal, so this year will be a bit sparse. But, I think it'll be fine, cause of the new furniture. Yep, I have it finally arranged and decorated. Love it! Will post pics soon!

I'm looking for a way to make the blackened beeswax to coat some ready made pillar candles.I have a customer that wants some with the dirty, black look. Or anyway to make them look dark. I've only done the lumpy, bumpy kind with melted wax and cinnamon. Anyone want to share their secrets? I've looked at the local craft stores, but can't seem to find anything. Maybe, because I don't know what I'm looking for. LOL! Any help would be appreciated. :)

Forgot to take pictures when I went to the Marketplace Booth the other day, but I'm going this morning and have my camera in my bag, so hopefully I can remember to take it in. I think the booth is really loking GREAT! Next week, I'll be working on Christmmas there. I'm hoping there won't be much Fall left to deal with.

Thursday evening....

I am back again and it's only been a few days.....we had a drippy, droopy Thursday in K-ville. I had a few errands to run and couldn't wait to get back home to sew. Did I mention that I had to buy a new sewing machine the other day? The bobbin casing on my machine got loose and sounded awful. The repairman said it would take up to 10 days to do the repairs...there is no way I could go that long without sewing, so I bought a Brother quilting machine at all places WALMART!! In all my years, I have never gone to Walmart to buy a machine, but I thought it would do in a pinch and be a back-up for me. Well, I gotta tell you...I love this little machine! It has some of neatest features and sooo many fun stitches. (Lots of stiches that my expensive machine doesn't have.) Needless to say, in between orders, I have been playing around with it, trying to figure out things that I can make and use all those nifty stitches. Right now, I'm learning how to quilt using a stipple stitch, Fun, Fun!! But, now on to what I have been doing for real..........

Here's a bit of what I have been working on lately.

Checkerboard and one of a kind cat make-do is going to the Marketplace Booth....

Who remembers these from years ago??? Be careful you might show your age. LOL!! I have made more than 50 of these in the last several weeks. Too funny! But they are kinda cute on jars....

I love how this turned out. Combined two different stencils....

and the color is wonderful...so rich.

Long time gone...................

Hello All!

It's been a while, hasn't it??? As usual, I've been busy and time just slips away from me. So many plans for the Fall, but now it's here and it's time to move on to Christmas. Didn't even decorate my house inside for Fall, just a few things outside.
Finally, found the furniture I wanted for my living room...not primitive at all, as I have to be practical, especially with Jack and Jake. Didn't want it shredded within a few days, so decided on something similiar to what I have now. It should be all ready to be delivered in a few weeks. In the meanwhile, I need to paint the room and get the carpet cleaned. Hopefully this week!!

I can't remember how long it's been since I've posted and not sure if I have you all that I have a booth in the Antiques Marketplace in Greensboro (again). I love, love, love being there. The folks are just wonderful that own and run it. I've done VERY WELL there so far. And I'm sure I could do better if I had about five more hours in my days. I'll take pictures this week when I go and share them with you all.

Hello!

How's everyone this evening? It's been a beautiful day here in NC and we have enjoyed our weekend

immensely. Personally,I have been busier than I usually am for this time of year. I know a lot of folks are saying that they think Primitive (style) decorating is on the decline...I have to disagree...I have such great customers and new ones are stopping by everyday. I am so Blessed!! But, you have to keep in mind that I work really hard at my business.....I am always thinking ahead. You have to, when you make handmades. Today you can be swamped, but if you are not careful, and ignor your site...your business will slack off. That's why I am constantly doing new products and selling in different venues. Sometimes, it's hard to keep it all straight...

But on to other news....

Have I mentioned that we had our first ever-raised garden this year? Can't remember if I have or not, LOL!! But, anyhow, we have been so pleased with the results. (NO ACHING BACKS, LOL!)

Can't seem to find the latest pic I took, but let me assure you...we have had tons of zucchini, cucumbers, peppers and now, the best German Johnson tomatoes ever...

This is one tomato that I sliced one evening. I couldn't believe how many slices...

For the first time in my life, I am tired of tomato sandwiches and cucumbers in marinade. LOL!! Hubby says he's gonna remind me in February that I got tired of cucumbers...

Hello! Hope everyone is doing ok on this HOT Monday! It's a little after 5:00 here and 93 degrees....Whew! I just came in from doing some errands and noticed how almost perfect this is....our BEAUTIFUL Crepe Myrtle Tree.

It has gotten so big over the years, think it probably needs to be trimmed back this fall. Hubby has done a great job keeping it as a tree, instead of a bush... And, I love it the way it is now...........

Good Morning!

Life has become quite hectic in the Freshwater household as of late.....too many irons in the fire. I haven't had much of a chance to be on here lately...and not quite sure if anyone has missed me. LOL!! I realized recently tho that I really loved blogging...I'm thinking I should try to find time to do more than I have been. I really have enjoyed sharing my thoughts and ideas with everyone.

As I am planning my week, a cute story comes to mind.......

Several years ago as I was trying to decide whether or not to get back in to the "CRAFTING BUSINESS", I met these two ladies, in a hole-in-the-wall shop about 30 minutes from my home. After several visits to their store and many more conversations, they convinced me to rent a space in their tiny store. As it turned out, this little space got me started doing what I'm doing today. They were actually the ones that named my business......One of the owners (Linda) thought Homespun and Primitives described me to a tee.....

But on to my real story. I developed a really nice following there, actually rather quickly. I couldn't keep my booth full. Folks would come in and make a bee-line to my space. Robin (the other owner) told me one day that I could sell almost anything, even stitcks, if it had homespun tied on it.....wala! This is what I went home and made.

I have brought back "RAG TWIGS" to my web site. A really prim alternative to rag balls.

It's amazing how many I have sold...Personally, I love them. And such a conversation piece!

Afterthought, I want you all to know that I kept a booth in that store for over 9 years...until the day the doors closed for good, a couple of years ago. It was a most rewarding experience...one that I will always remember.

Happy Mother's Day!

I want to wish all the Mothers, Grandmothers, Great-Grandmothers and anyone who has raised children...HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY! I have spent the better part of 30 years raising my two girls (sometimes by myself, it seemed) and enjoyed (almost) every minute of it. There are times when I wonder how I survived some of the teenage years, but now I see how wonderful both of my girls have grown to be. I may not agree with all their choices...but I believe in the fact they have the right to make them....just as I did......

Finally, I got a pair of these fabulous little shoes all finished! I know the pattern has been around for a while...but, I could never seem to get them to suit me. These however, are one of the sweetest things that I have made in a long time.

I made a post the other day about quantity versus quality. I would really like to know what other folks think..... I'm pretty sure it might be a concern for more than just me.

I had a conversation with a friend of mine the other day and she seems to feel the majority of folks don't really care about the quality of the crafts they purchase. They care more about quantity than quality. I honestly think that most of my customers really look for and appreciate the quality of goods they get from me. What do you guys think??? Have an opinion one way or the other? I would really like to hear what y'all think.

Cold and rainy Saturday.........

How's everyone today? Well, I do believe it has turned back to Winter. It has been a very gray day here. Cloudy and rainy from morning to night. The kind of day you want to stay inside and read a book, have a cup of tea and just relax. We had planned to be outside, but ended up inside when we were here. We started out being a bit lazy...there was another one of those wee hour thunderstorms that wakes me up and I couldn't go back to sleep. So, after roaming around the house at 2 am, I ended up staying in bed until after 7. Believe me, I hardly ever do that.
Later in the morning, we decided to go on a hunt for mantles for our outside gaslight. After going to several local stores, we decided to go to Winston Salem to look. (There seemed to be a lot of folks out shopping today, even with gas prices nearing $3.80 a gallon.) We found them at an outdoor garden type store. Only $13.00 for the two we needed. Hubby got them installed, but couldn't get the gas turned back on. I'll call the gas company on Monday...
I did a bit of crafting today, but not really what I wanted to do. There are times when I seem to have a lot of projects started and I have to take a day (or at least a block of time) and finish up a few. I worked on a few new patterns as well......

Friday night.....

Well, it's the end of another week.....kinda looking forward to the weekend. We have several projects to finish, including filing our taxes and working in the yard. Personally, I have a few sewing projects for myself that I would like to do. The weather seems to be turning a little stormy all around....hope it blows over.
Oh, I wanted to be sure and tell you guys that I have sold two of my bears today! Woo Hoo!! It really thrills me that folks like my designs!

Here's a couple of things I listed on my web site today.

These sunflowers are fabulous in person...over 10 inches across in size!! They are wonderful mounted to sticks or dowel rods (if you prefer). I sell them on my web site as "heads" only. Shipping would just be too much with these stems at 22 inches and more.

Thursday evening....

Hey guys! I've been reading about how folks are getting their gardens ready to plant...well, I guess you could say that about Hubby and me. We decided that we were going to try a raised garden this year. Mind you, neither one of us really knows what we're doing, but oh well, we'll learn as we go. I have already learned that treated lumber is perfectly safe to use...you don't have to worry about contamination and hopefully it will last for years to come. I have also learned that bags of dirt are heavy and expensive! We have bought about 12 bags so far to the tune of about $80 plus dollars. I'm sure you're asking why we didn't buy a load and have it delivered??? Well, we thought of that, but there is not enough space to dump it where we need it, so we thought this would be easier for us. Lesson number three...do not try to pick up bags of dirt if you have a bad back. In fact, stay as far away from it as you can. Okay, enough of the garden...on to what I have been working on.

This is one of my (most) favorite things in a while....I have been wanting to do this for a long, long time and couldn't seem to find a pattern to suit me, so I sat down with the kitties the other day and fiddled around with it, until I got the look I wanted.

His name is Raeford Johnson and his arms and legs are jointed. He's got sooo much personality and can be found here:

Hello All!

I noticed today that I have over 300 followers! Can you imagine? I want to thank everyone that has signed on for all this. It seems like I don't have much to share these days. Same ole, same ole.........but, it's been a rather interesting week for me.
I haven't realized in a while how much time I actually spend on my computer and on-line for that matter. This week I have come to realize that I spend a lot of time piddling around picture trails, blogs and facebook. My hubby told me once that you can really get sucked into it. I have to admit, maybe I am one of those.
On Sunday, my computer started acting up a bit with certain sites, but I didn't think much about it. Then on Monday it was a little worse and then by Tuesday, it was really bad.......couldn't access certain sites at all. I didn't play on the computer at all for over 24 hours. It was like withdrawal!! Well, not really, but I hardly knew what to do with myself. It's amazing how much time I spend popping on and off the computer. I found myself feeling like I do when the electricity is off at my house.
Do you have any idea how many hours you spend at your computer in a days time, weeks time, in a month???
My new goal is to check early morning, noon and before bed. If I have new handmades to list at one of my selling sites, I'll do it at one of those times. It's amazing how much I have accomplished this week!! Lots of new goodies on my web site.

It has turned Winter-like in NC on this March Thursday. I thought I was going to freeze today. The wind has been blowing all day and my Bradford Pear Tree made my front yard look like it was snowing. Supposed to be even colder tomorrow.

Happy Spring you all!

I can't believe it has been 2 weeks since I have been here to post. Boy, does time fly when you're busy. I don't know about you guys, but I seem to have a few problems adjusting to the time change. I seem to be tired quicker than usual, but oh well, I'm sure it'll be fine in a few more days.

I am so blessed to have so many wonderful customers and I want to Thank everyone for their continued support of my web site and my products. It means the world to me to have such wonderful folks buying my handmades!

Crazy Couple of Weeks.....

Hey, all of you out there in Blogland! I have missed you guys and I really have to get busy catching up on all of you.

My Dad got sick a couple of weeks ago and ended up almost having bypass surgery. He had two arteries closed at 95% and one at a 100% closed. SCARY!! considering he is around 80 years old. But, after what I personally believe to be a miracle and lots of prayers...he had 3 stints put in. He is home now and slowly regaining his strength. I have spent lots of time with them the past couple of weeks and I want to urge you all, spend as much time as you can with your loved ones. You never know how much time either of you have left.

I have been playing catch up this weekend with everything! Housework, laundry, cooking and of course Orders! I really miss my normal routine, but it's ok...I'll be back on schedule soon.

Can I ask you guys for some assisstance? I am going to work on my web site in the next few days (or weeks) and would really love to have someone make me :

1) a webtopper (in just a textured neutral color) with my name, Homespun and Primitives

2) 2 coordinating backgrounds (maybe one that looks like homespun) and the other to match the webtopper

3) and a matching add to cart button.

Middle of January, already???

We have all been so busy here in K-ville trying to get caught up on orders and making new designs that I (literally) realized today that January is half over. My, how time flies when you're having fun!

Has everyone re-couped from the snow, ice and cold temps?? We never used to have these snowy winters...I remember plenty of Winters where we never brought out a coat. I have personally just about frozen to death. We still have a few patches of snow where the sun doesn't reach, but all in all, it's pretty much melted away.
Today was rather nice and sunny. Tomorrow is supposed to be warmer and then rain on Monday, but it beats snow.

I woke up this morning feeling a bit under the weather and decided to take the morning (turned into day) off. I joined a few groups on FACEBOOK....don't have a clue what I'm doing, but I bought two new patterns and chated with my youngest daughter. Plus, I worked on my web site some. I've been trying to weed out some categories and I did that today. Hoping it will be easier to shop. Marked down a lot more goodies too! Find the sale items here:

Merry Christmas Blogging Buddies!

It has been so long since I have been here to post and I am sorry for that. As we all know, it's such a busy time of year for everyone and I haven't had much spare time to get my thoughts together.

Between Dr's appointments, dentist appointments, orders, shopping for Christmas, decorating for Christmas, trying to my house cleaned and organized....not to mention a car accident thrown in, my days have been very full. I am finally beginning to get "EVERYTHING" checked off my list. Two more Dr. appointment, one to the Dentist (tomorrow and they're calling for Snow here) 2 more orders, one more gift to buy, (all the others are wrapped and under the tree), house is getting there, as well as some early baking, decorating is a bit sparse this year, just haven't been in the spirit. At my house, I have to move things all around just to make room for the tree and honestly, I haven't had the energy to much more. And finally my car has been repaired and all is well....

I have really been trying to simplify my household. I have been reading that a lot of other folks are doing the same. There is way too much "stuff" going on here for two people. Sometimes, I find myself working all over the house 'cause I have so much going on at one time. One of my New Year's Resolution is to STAY better organized and keep my crafting confined to my space. There are times that I can't even clean my house for all the projects....NO MORE!! I have taken one room at a time and cleaned from top to bottom! My kitchen is the only room left and it will be finished this week.

Another resolution is to get off all my medication is 2011!!! If I continue to improve like I have the last 45 days, I can do it!! I am so tired of it all and I am following my Dr.'s orders to the letter so I can have a fresh start.

Okay, enough of my rambling, just wanted to explain a bit, but now on to other things.....

It's hard to believe it has been so long since I have posted.....I kept thinking I would post, but never got around to it. I have been trying to stay busy with lots of projects, but I had a really lousy (last) week. I had several doctor appointments and was on pins and needles waiting on results. My numbers were up a bit, but I still have a long ways to go. At least my feritin was up some and we're hoping my iron and hemoglobin will be normal within 60 days. But, anyways I'm trying really hard to feel good. This week has been better for me.

It's been rather chilly here today. Folks are burning leaves and it smells very Fall-like outside. Leaves are slowing turning on our Maple trees in the back yard. The Bradford pear in front hasn't started yet, neither has the huge Crepe Myrtle, but I'm sure it won't be too long.
I've been freezing all day...even inside my house. My capris and flip flops have got to go....they will soon be replaced with jeans and turtlenecks.

I am really not pleased with the way pictures are posted these days. It's too dang complicated!! But, I have several things I would like to share, so we'll see how it goes........

Feeling like FALL.......

I think FALL is finally trying to arrive in K-ville! It actually has cooled off and it just feels like Fall is close by. Personally, I like the cooler days...it has been so hot here this summer. It's nice to see folks bringing out their Fall decor and pumpkins. For a while there, I thought no one else was going to....

I decided the other day to cut up one of my quilts to make some things. I had pondered for months on what to make out of it....wanted to have a plan before I cut it. Finally decided on a few pin keeps, pillows and a few new things.

Last week, I got around to making this bear....I have been wanting to make one for ages and just never got around to it. I found this piece of plush felt that I have moved around to several different houses and decided it was time. The pattern is from Sweet Meadows Farm...I realize that mine looks different than the pattern, but I think he's pretty cool anyway....

I made his legs floppy so he could be posed in different positions. There's another one in the works...just needs eyes. I'll share him later.

I think it's finally beginning to feel a bit like FALL in K-ville!! It turned out to be a rather nice Tuesday afternoon .

Just listed this little guy on my web site and wanted to share it with you all.....

One of a kind, designed by me. I sculpted the head out of paper clay and made the hat to fit. The cone is painted black with a bit of sparkle. I love the way it turned out!

I haven't posted since Tuesday and what an interesting three days I have had. Hubby shared his cold with me and it has really knocked me on my fanny!! Yet again, I have another illness. Felt like I had been run over by a truck for several days and then yesterday, woke up with NO sound coming out of my mouth. When I say no sound, I mean no sound! My poor kittys didn't know what had happened to me...they wanted no part of being in the same room with me. But, today it's better, not all the way, but at least I can hear myself. I have promised myself that I am going to be all well by tomorrow!! (Mind over matter???)

Just finished this Scarerow-Witch and wanted to share with you all! Believe me this is not one of my normal creations....a Special order for a friend.
What do you think?

I just finished up the pumpkin as well......it's one of those carvable kind from Michael's. I had stored it in my attic and I suppose it got too hot and split. Instead of throwing it away, I glued it back together, filled it in with wood filler, sanded it, painted it with two coats of Georgia Clay paint and antiqued it with Dark Walnut minwax. A lot of work, but it looks great!!

We woke up to a beautiful, sunny day, although it's supposed to get nice and hot this afternoon. I was thinking FALL officially will be here next week, but I don't think the temperatures here in the South have realized that. It has been warm here for days....

It was aother busy week here in Kernersville....made several new things for Fall for my Pilot Mountain booth and my friend Terri (shares a booth up there) took all my treasures up there for the FALL OPEN HOUSE that was last evening. I can't wait to hear how we did up there with sales.

Hello, blogging buddies! It's been well over a week since I sat down and attempted to write a post. And here I am again...I have been busy this week and didn't seem to accomplish much of anything of any significance. Hubby has been on vacation, yet again!! I'm beginning to think he's home more than he works, but lately, I just try to forget he's hanging around.
We cleaned up outside a bit and trimmed some bushes and I cleaned my front porch so I could bring out a few Fall things. Not going to do as much this year, inside or out. It's too much effort to pack things away just to decorate for Fall. And besides this year, we have these two kittens that are into everything!! Worse than children, I do believe! I have had to put away my wonderful woodland tree that I decorate for all the seasons. They were trying to climb it and would take ornaments off and hide them, so after awhile, I decided it was best put up in the attic.

I made it! to Friday that is! It has been quite a week for me....I spent alot of time with my parents this week. My Dad has been having some health issues and the most important thing was for me to be with them. Everything hopefully will be fine in a few more days, but my Dad is nearing 80 and my Mom is close behind. Any time with them is time well spent. You never have regrets if you put your family first.

I have worked on some new goodies and orders this week and have finally gotten caught up from vacation......my craft booths got some much needed TLC as well. Not a lot, but a bit. If all goes well, I want to re-do the booth in Pilot Mountain soon. I know Tammy is going to have some fabulous new pieces and a Fall Open House in September and I want my booth (with Terri) to look wonderful.

Whew, it's Friday.........

What a week this has been! I meant to post on Wednesday and then again, yesterday, but I was so tired that I couldn't sit down and use my brain. I took a little trip on Wednesday up to Betty and Dan's (Crockett's Country Store) recently re-opened store in Whythville, VA! Oh my goodness, you have to go by and visit if you are anywhere near the area! It's an old house COMPLETELY filled with primitives, antiques and handmades! It's kinda like stores used to be years ago, filled with charm and personality! I forgot my camera, but here's a sampling of their FALL merchandise.

Bill and I will be going back up there around Labor Day and I will definately take my camera!!

It's Tuesday already and I can barely remember what happened to Monday...I've only got a few minutes as I am making dinner. Hot boiled shrimp with drawn butter and cocktail sauce, baked potatoes and a sliced iceberg lettuce salad with grape tomatoes, fresh cucumber and green pepper (hubby's new favorite salad). I bought a couple of cake slices for dessert, but I'm not sure if we'll eat them.

Okay on to the business at hand.......

I bought these from some one's blog with the intention of making little pantry cakes. I've never gotten around to it and thought maybe someone else might want them to try. These are quite small, I photographed them on a piece of scrapbooking paper, 8.5 x 11, so you could visulize the general size. The small one is about 2.75 inches across. The larger one is about 3.75 inches across.

The weekend is almost over and I have accomplished so much. My craft room/studio is almost completely organized, plus I am sewing bonnets and pumpkins this afternoon. Saturday Cleaning Up and Out.....

Hey Everybody! Hope you all are having a great weekend so far. It is finally a little cooler here, so I decided to tackle cleaning and organizing my craft room/studio!! In between working on orders and looking for new things to make, I have barely had time for anything else. But, today, I decided to take a few hours and JUST DO IT!!

I have a question for all you crafting gals.....how do you organize your magazines to find articles/patterns that you might want to make at a later time? I always seem to forget or wait too long for that season and by the time the next year rolls around, there's new magazines plus I have totally forgotten about the previous years. There must be some way that other folks do it. I had even thought about scanning into my computer, but that would take way too much time. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. For the moment, I just keep all my magazines on a bookshelf in my room.

Taking a break from all this and going to the Mexican restaurant for lunch! Yum!!

Saturday morning, giveaway winner and rambling....

Well, another week has flown by and I haven't accomplished (near) what I needed to....the beginning of the week was pretty much taken up with Dr's. appointments. I was supposed to start a new treatment for my blood problem, but by the time Wednesday rolled around, I had talked myself and my oncologist out of it. After attempting it on Monday and Tuesday, I thought it best not to try on Wednesday. Maybe, someone was trying to tell me something, huh??? So, after careful thought and consideration, we have decided to try a new medication and see what the numbers show in 30 days and then again in 60 days.

This has been an all day process for me trying to make this post....I keep getting interrupted and can't seem to find the time to sit back down. I have been so busy that I haven't thought of anything to do for August, so I think I will take a break for a month or two. It's so hard trying to keep up with all the entries and making sure that everyone gets their name in the HAT.... I have made promises that I am going to slow down the pace and this is the beginning.

Another way that I am trying to slow down is making everything that will fit and can be shipped in priority boxes from the post office. You can't imagine how much time is spent trying to find boxes to ship signs, shelves and odd shaped items in. And the cost to do it!!! It's totally out of control...I have flat rate shipping charges and it used to work out. Nowadays, maybe 10% of the time, my flat rate covers the shipping. The fabric items work out most of the time, but 4 orders this week cost me more than what was charged. I'm sure that everyone is running into the same problems as me, any ideas??

Friday morning.........

Well, a lot has happened since I last posted here. We just got home from a busy vacation in Mexico. It was such a wonderful place to visit, EVERYTHING was included!!! Food, drinks, snacks, room service, spa....did I mention the drinks??? I'm usually not much of a drinker, but the Pina Coladas (spelling?) were the best. The weather was nice almost the whole time. A few showers here and there, but always a nice breeze.
We were so pampered the whole time. I love having someone pick up after me and not complain! The food was a little different, but finally decided room service was the way to go for me. I could order pretty much what I'm used to, only with minor differences. And they set it up sooooo nice for us.
We went on a tour, did some sight-seeing and shopping while we were there, but the open markets and such are pretty much the same in whatever country you're in. Couldn't tell much difference in Mexico, the Bahamas, Grand Caymens....just the sayings on the T-shirts are different. LOL!! We did buy a few pieces of jewelry (always sterling silver, cause of the good prices) I bargained with one vendor to save 48.00 on a bracelet. I was very pleased and he seemed to be as well. T-shirts were a bit pricey I thought...almost $20.00 a piece and that was with the discount. But, we picked up a few anyway.
I'm always a little nervous about buying too much stuff, because of going through customs, but even that was a breeze this year. So exciting to get more stamps on my passport! (I was a little disappointed when we went to the Bahamas last year on the cruise, cause we didn't get any stamps at all.........)
We were in Mexico five years ago and couldn't believe how much it had changed......it seemed to be much more up to date and current (for lack of a better word) . The old, delapidated buildings are being replaced and the roads are sooo much nicer, 4 lanes in a lot of areas and even the Taxi's are newer. I took quite a few pictures and will post some after I have a chance to go through all of them.

Just wanted to check in and let everyone know that I'm still around, as it was a little harder there for me. I couldn't ever get signed on to my blog to leave comments, but I did read a few now and then. It's amazing how much you can miss normal, every day....looking forward to getting back to my routine. Right now, we are heading out to eat....I'll be back soon.

Good morning all!

Hope you all are well on this warm Wednesday morning. I'm wondering if it is ever going to cool off???? It's 94 degrees and it's not even 11:00 yet....

My week got off to a rocky start on Monday...of all things, I woke up with a temperature! I immediately called my MD and got in early in the day. A little concerned as we are leaving for vacation soon. They did a few tests, but haven't received all the results yet. The blood work did show that my iron and hemoglobin are going up, however slowly. But, my Ferritin SUCKS!! Back down to 4...dr. says I'll probably have to have iron infusions. Anyone ever had them?? Would be interested in hearing from anyone that has.

Long time gone.........

Hi guys! It's hard to believe that it's been over a week since I posted. As I sometimes say, Life just happens! It's been a busy time for me with lots going on around the Freshwater's house.

Last week, after Bill went back to work, our air conditioner went out twice within three days! It was 102.5 degrees outside and my air just stops! Some of you can imagine how hot it gets and how fast it gets hot in the house. The funny part, (if there was one) is what happened to make the air conditioner die....after finding someone that could come out and take a look, the technician took less than 3 minutes to repair it and have it up and running again. It actually took him longer to take the screws out and remove the door. There were no breakers involved, no parts, no switches...it was a bug!! Yes, a bug! I thought he meant like a computer bug, but no it was an insect bug. It crawled in there and broke the connection and got fried. He removed the half that was still there and wha la! it was fixed. It immediately started cooling again. It took a while to cool down the house...afterall it was 87 degrees inside.
Well, two days later, the exact same thing happened again!!! My house got up to 89 degrees this time. They explained that it happens all the time especially when it has been so hot and dry. I almost thought it was a joke! This time we weren't so lucky. We had to buy a $75.00 part to fix it. BUT, at least it has a cover on it to keep the bugs out! The technician assured me that this would do the trick. I am sincerely thankful that it was nothing more than bugs, but it did cost $274.50 to be cool again! Oh to think how much fun it would've been to go on a shopping spree........

Monday evening...

As I am sitting here, making my to-do list for Tuesday, I realize that Bill will be going back to work after being home for 10 days. Six of those days were vacation....for him, not for me. Love him to death, but it's really hard for me to take off as much as he does. So I have gotten to the point that I work around him. Although this week, he has worked almost non-stop on the computers. Finally, everything is put back where it belongs and I am trying to figure all this out.
Tomorrow will be a busy day for me filled with cutting out wood, sanding and painting. Plus I'll be sewing a few dolls, patchwork runners, pillows and more. Orders will have to be dropped off at the post office and UPS. (I usually don't ship anything that will have to sit through a holiday at the post office or terminal).

I wanted to show y'all the crosstitch piece that I started and FINISHED in one day. I love how it turned out!! Let me tell ya, I think I have forgotten more than I thought I had. It's been at 25 years since I have stitched like this. I actually enjoyed doing it, and couldn't seem to put it down. I finally went to bed about 1:45 this morning.

Before anyone can say this....I know I cut the fabric almost too small. I am going to make it into a pinkeep and if I have to, I'll add some strips of fabric around the edges before I sew it together. Don't you love the colors???? I think it'll be even better after it's tea-dyed..... Just didn't have time to work on it today. Should I put my initials like we did back in the olden days?

Perfect Picnic Day.........

HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY!!!

As we were coming back from breakfast this morning, Bill and I both commented almost simultaneously what a perfect day it is....I guess that's the way it is after knowing each other for so long. We met 4th of July week, 39 years ago!! We were at Myrtle Beach and he was taking pictures with his fancy, dancy camera....I still remember the first time I saw him.
We were reminiscing about other 4th of July's....one in particular, back in 1982. Bill had been transferred to Detroit and had been working there for a while. I was still living in NC with our oldest daughter. We missed each other like crazy!! But, he couldn't get away to come home for a visit. We had some dear friends in our neighborhood that worked for an airline and they offered to fly with me to Detroit for the holiday!! You can't imagine how exciting it was for me!! I'd never been to the Midwest and never flown on a plane either!!! It was a wonderful flight and we stayed in a wonderful Holiday Inn Holidome. The room Bill and I stayed in had a perfect view of the light show out on the Detroit River (connects Detroit and Windsor, Canada). They were setting off fireworks from a barge. I have yet to see a better show than we saw that 4th of July!! That was the beginning of our adventures as we left behind NC.......

This 4th of July we won't be in Detroit, at the beach or the mountains, just at home in K-ville. We are going on vacation later in July to Mexico. We will however be cooking out and going to see fireworks later. That's one good thing about living where we live now....lots of festivities for all the Holidays. In particular, fireworks in Greensboro, High Point and Winston-Salem...all within a 20 minute drive.

Still adding a new Fall related items on a daily basis....anyone have any new ideas on Fall goodies? I can't seem to come up with anything that knocks my socks off. My sister is working a few more things...I can't wait to see them! Her things are soooo different than mine. She does the really prim and grungy look!

I have listed a few new OOAK things today. They are made from a wonderful calico....I made a bonnet and got it listed yesterday and it's already sold. These match the bonnet. Wish I had more of this fabric...it's all gone now.

Well, I think I'm gonna try my hand at crosstitching again. I've been wanting to attempt it for awhile now, but just haven't had a chance. It was one of the first crafts that I ever did when I first started crafting. Back then I found it slow and tedious! Right up my alley now!! Bill is STILL tweaking the new servers. I'm glad I don't have to pay him by the hour! LOL!!

Today's New Fall Item.......

Whew!! Finally got my web site to work!!! It had been up and down since last evening. I actually thought Hubby had done something, because as of today, we have a brand, stinking new server for our house computers. Bill has spent the better part of this WHOLE week building a server from scratch. He has loaded mine with Windows 7, instead of the Vista that I had just got used to.....we'll have to see how that's gonna work out for me.

Wow! It's the first day of July already! This year is flying by!! June was a fabulous month for us at Homespun and Primitives!! But we are just as excited about what we have planned for July. We (as in, my sister from http://myprimitivesblog.blogspot.com/

Yesterday, Bill and I had a few errands to do and while we were in Greensboro we went to lunch at a local barbeque restaurant. I hadn't been there literally in years and it was so good. They don't have a huge menu, but what they have is really good. Bill had chopped barbeque, slaw, hushpuppies and strawberry cobbler for dessert. I had a bowl of Brunswick stew...it was 90 degrees and I had stew. LOL!! But, I absolutely love the way they make theirs with barbeque, chicken and all kinds of veggies. We also had to pick up a few things at JoAnn fabrics and the computer store.

I found these at 50% off to hang in my craft room...as soon as it gets painted, that is.

JUMBO BUTTONS

These are too cute. I have never seen these in a store before.

JoAnn had this little critter as well, for 60% off!! We both loved it as soon as we saw it!! He will eventually live under our Crepe Myrtle tree....(notice all the snowflake looking blooms). He really looks real sitting there.

Well, it is almost 10:00 am and we haven't been to breakfast yet! Gotta run for now!!

Good morning, Folks! Hope you all having a good week so far. Yesterday, was hot and busy in K-ville. With the daily specials that I have bee running all month, I am very busy for this time of year! And I love it!! It's way too hot outside for me and staying in the house, sewing and painting is just fine with me.

Today, is going to be another busy for me. Lots and lots of sewing to be done. But first, hubby and I are going out to breakfast and by Lowes to pick up a few pieces of wood. It's almost too warm to work out in the garage workshop , but there are peg boards, signs and table servers to be made!!

busy Saturday...

Whew!! Another super hot day here! I guess it must be hot everywhere....we took a little trip up to Fancy Gap and it was the same there. Maybe not quite as humid....I finally got all Betty's Goodies to her at the Fancy Gap store. If you are anywhere close by, be sure and stop in to see Betty and Dan!! You know I haven't been there in several months and I couldn't believe all the treasures in that store! There is absolutely something for everyone! Old and Young alike!! I can't wait to take my sister up there when she comes to visit next time. I wish I would have taken my camera, so I could share with you all. Next time, for sure!!

We made a few stops on the way home to get a few things. There's a wonderful market on the VA-NC line that sells the most wonderful flowers, old-time candies, local honey, pickles, preserves and of course in season fruits and veggies. We also had to make a pit-stop at JoAnn fabrics in Winston-Salem along with a quick stop at Michael's for a few supplies. As we got closer to home, Lowes Hardware was the next stop. While he is on vacation (yet again) Hubby wants to build the kitty's a scratching post. The one they have is a little too short. Jack is so pitiful, he has to lay on his belly to scratch. Bill thought it would be nice to make one about 36 inches tall or so. ( I'm thinking 42 inches, so they have room to grow). But, so far no luck in finding anything for the post. There was one fence post that was round, but it was 96 inches long!! They wouldn't cut it and I definately couldn't with my band saw, we couldn't even get that in my station wagon so............I guess we'll keep looking for something. He's off until July 6th, plenty of time (hopefully) to find something that will work.

Is it hot everywhere like it is here in NC? It IS so hot that the news media and officials are warning people to be careful and have safe (cool) places set up for activities that have to take place outside. Hopefully, it's supposed to cool off next week a little bit.

A few more things that I re-did the other day....

This peg rack was an UGLY plae blue....I ainted it black and then dry brushed burgandy all over. Really nice effect....

Quilt shelf was originally stained.....looks great painted black with maybe just some pieces of homespun or old linens hanging on the bar......

I found this in an antique store in VA. It was brown enamel paint. Sanded it a little and painted it black and think I'll make a little sawdust pillow to lay on top.

Another hot morning in K-ville..........almost 89 degrees and it's not even 9:00 yet. I think it was 75 this morning at 5 am.

Can you believe it's already Wednesday??? June is almost over and Fourth of July is around the corner!! I never did get around to making much Americana this year....oh well, maybe next year.
